SkinPen microneedling in Pensacola, FL
Microneedling is a treatment that creates thousands of microscopic channels in the skin to trigger your body's own collagen production, softening acne scars, refining texture, and smoothing fine lines. At Abound Aesthetics in Pensacola we use SkinPen, the first microneedling device FDA-cleared in the United States. Most people need three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with one to three days of redness after each.

Your skin repairs injury by building collagen. That's not a metaphor, it's the literal mechanism, and microneedling exploits it deliberately.
The SkinPen glides across your skin creating thousands of microscopic channels, adjustable from 0.25mm to 2.5mm depending on the area and what we're treating. Each channel is a controlled, precisely-sized injury. Too small to damage anything, big enough that your body notices.
Your skin responds the way it responds to any wound: growth factors release, fibroblasts activate, and new collagen and elastin form. The difference is that because the injuries are tiny and evenly distributed, the new collagen lays down in an organised lattice rather than the disorganised bundle you get in scar tissue. That's why microneedling improves the look of scars rather than adding to them.
Which explains the timeline. Collagen remodeling isn't fast. You'll see some brightness within a week from swelling and circulation, but the real change accumulates over months as new collagen matures. A single session does very little. Three to six sessions, spaced to let each round of collagen mature, is where results live.
Acne scars - the FDA-cleared indication, and where microneedling performs best. Rolling and boxcar scars respond well. Deep ice-pick scars respond less, and we'll tell you which kind you have. One published study of 60 patients reported roughly 31% improvement in skin texture after three SkinPen treatments.
Texture and enlarged pores - the roughness you feel more than see, and pores that have stretched over time. Microneedling refines both gradually.
Fine lines - the early, surface-level ones. Collagen loss shows here first, and rebuilding it softens them.
Overall dullness - sluggish cell turnover leaves skin flat. Microneedling accelerates it.
Surgical and injury scars - often responsive, though timing matters. A scar needs to be fully mature, generally at least six months old.
Stretch marks - some improvement on body areas, more modest than facial results. We'll set that expectation honestly before you book a series.
Microneedling at Abound Aesthetics is performed by Hannah Moseley, licensed esthetician and owner, or Rebecca Trevino, Nurse Practitioner, depending on depth and what we're treating.
Hannah founded Abound on the belief that beauty isn't about perfection, it's about amplifying what already makes you uniquely you. Skin is her area, and microneedling series are where she does her most patient work: assessing month over month, adjusting depth by area, and being honest about which sessions are moving the needle.
We're a boutique practice on purpose. You see the same faces, we remember where you started, and nobody rushes you through a series.
Microneedling opens thousands of temporary channels in your skin. For a short window afterward, whatever we apply penetrates far deeper than it ever could on intact skin. That window is the entire reason post-procedure products matter and the reason applying the wrong thing is genuinely risky.
We use Ariessence pure PDGF+, a topical platelet-derived growth factor. PDGF is one of the signalling proteins your own platelets release to drive healing and collagen production. Applying it during that open window supports the exact process microneedling just triggered.
Why we chose it: it delivers a pure, concentrated form of PDGF without drawing blood, and there's a randomized controlled trial showing it improved facial skin quality at 30 days after microneedling more effectively than standard care. That's a real trial, not a brochure claim.
The honest part: the strongest published evidence is for RF microneedling specifically. We use it after standard microneedling too, on sound reasoning about the same healing pathway — but the trial data is for the RF version, and you should know which is which.
And the warning that matters more than the product: do not let anyone apply a random serum after microneedling, and don't apply one at home yourself. Your skin is temporarily open. Fragrance, actives, and anything not formulated for post-procedure use can cause reactions or granulomas that are far worse than whatever you were treating. If a provider reaches for an off-the-shelf product after needling you, ask what it is

During: topical numbing sits for about 20 to 30 minutes, then the treatment itself takes 20 to 30. Most people describe a vibrating, scratchy sensation rather than pain. Bonier areas, forehead, jawline, are more noticeable than cheeks.
Immediately after: you'll look sunburned. Warm, red, tight. That's expected and it's the most dramatic your skin will look through the whole process.
Day 1-3: redness fades. Some people get mild flaking around day three as turnover accelerates. Makeup after 24 hours.
Week 1: a temporary glow from swelling and circulation. Nice, but not the real result.
Weeks 4-12: the actual change. New collagen matures gradually. This is why we space sessions four to six weeks apart, and why the third session tends to be when people say "oh, now I see it."
Aftercare: no strenuous exercise, saunas, pools, or direct sun for 48 hours. Gentle cleanser only. Sunscreen every single day: new collagen is vulnerable to UV and skipping it undoes what you paid for. Skip retinoids and acids for a week.
Let's Chat
This is the treatment where living in Pensacola genuinely matters.
Microneedling and sun are a bad combination in both directions. Fresh post-treatment skin burns easily and is prone to pigmenting, and UV degrades the new collagen you're building.
Which means two things:
Don't book a series into a beach summer unless you're genuinely committed to daily SPF and shade. We would rather start you in October than take your money in June and watch the results wash out.
And don't book within 48 hours of a beach day. Not a boat day, not a long round of golf, not the Blue Angels show. Plan around it.
We're not saying this to be difficult, sun discipline is the single biggest variable in whether a microneedling series works, and on the Gulf Coast it takes more effort than it does elsewhere. If you can't commit to it, tell us and we'll talk about whether this is the right season to start.
Timing: allow at least a week before an event, and ideally schedule your last session two to three weeks out. We're at 100 S Baylen St E in downtown Pensacola. Thursdays until 7.
Experience Microneedling
Skin texture is a strange thing to carry. It's rarely what anyone else notices, and it's often the first thing you see, in a bathroom mirror, in a photo, in the wrong light at a restaurant.
Microneedling is slow, which is the honest thing about it. It's a series, it asks something of you between appointments, and the change arrives quietly enough that you might not notice until someone else does.
But it's your own collagen. Nothing is being added. Your skin is just being asked to do what it already knows how to do.
Come sit with us. We'll look at your skin properly, tell you whether this is the right treatment, and tell you if it isn't.

Most people need three to six, spaced four to six weeks apart. Acne scarring usually needs the higher end; general texture and glow often responds by three. One session produces very little on its own — this treatment works as a series.
Less than it sounds. Topical numbing is applied 20 to 30 minutes beforehand, and most people describe a vibrating, scratchy sensation rather than pain. Bonier areas like the forehead and jawline are more noticeable than the cheeks.
One to three days of redness resembling a mild sunburn. Most people return to normal activity within 24 to 48 hours and can wear makeup after 24 hours.
Yes — it's the FDA-cleared indication for the SkinPen. Rolling and boxcar scars respond best. Deep ice-pick scars respond less well and may need a different approach. One published study of 60 patients reported about 31% improvement in skin texture after three treatments.
A temporary glow appears within a week from swelling and circulation, but the real change is gradual as new collagen forms and matures over four to twelve weeks. Most people notice meaningful improvement after the third session.
SkinPen is the microneedling device we use, and it was the first microneedling system FDA-cleared in the United States for improving the appearance of facial acne scars. Needle depth adjusts from 0.25mm to 2.5mm depending on the area and concern.
Only what your provider gives you. Microneedling leaves thousands of temporary channels open, so anything applied penetrates far deeper than normal. Fragranced products, active ingredients, and anything not formulated for post-procedure use can cause reactions. We have the option to apply Ariessence pure PDGF+, a topical growth factor formulated for this purpose.
No. Needling over active breakouts can spread bacteria and worsen inflammation. We treat the active acne first and address the scarring afterward.
Standard microneedling uses needle depth alone to trigger collagen production, working well for texture, mild scarring, and fine lines. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy that heats deeper tissue, which addresses skin laxity and deeper scarring more effectively with more downtime.
